Ladies Anna van Wersch sprints to 2nd place in final stage of Tour de Pologne

Anna van Wersch (22) finished second in the final stage of the Tour of Poland. The Lotto Dstny Ladies can look back with satisfaction, having also secured a second-place finish for Wilma Aintila earlier this week.
Race 30 June 2024
“We were all determined to achieve something special on the final day here in Poland,” van Wersch said. “Julie Hendrickx set the tone for the day right from the start by launching a full-on attack at kilometer zero. This was a perfect way to kick off the day. We took turns attacking, and the team was very active in the front throughout the race. We were also consistently in the front on the climbs.”

“Unfortunately, our teamwork and attacking spirit were not rewarded, as the peloton didn’t allow any Lotto Dstny rider to stay out front for more than a few kilometers. We had to settle it in the sprint. In the final, it was a steep downhill, so you needed some guts to maintain a good position. Thanks to the confidence from the team, I was able to position myself well and start my sprint perfectly. I tried to overtake Scarlett Souren (VolkerWessels), but she was unfortunately a bit too strong for me today. Nevertheless, I am extremely happy with my very first podium finish for the team. I am very proud of all of us.”

Earlier this week, Wilma Aintila also made it to the podium, finishing second in the opening time trial.
