Arnaud De Lie sprints to third spot in Renewi Tour

The finale of the fourth stage was full of chaos, with a crash in the peloton. Arnaud De Lie could avoid the crash and sprinted to a 3rd place. Alec Segaert remains the leader in the general and youth classification, ahead of the queen stage to Geraardsbergen tomorrow.

A breakaway of 7 riders got taken back before the local laps, that was the sign for 6 other riders to attack. With 8 kilometer to go it was certain the finale would end with a bunch sprint. In the final kilometer a big crash interrupted the sprint preparations, which caused a smaller group to head to the finish. Arnaud De Lie sprinted to a third spot.

“The sprint was very dangerous. It was difficult to organise us, I lost the wheel of Jasper (De Buyst) unfortunately. And sadly there was a big crash, which I could avoid, then I waited for the last corner to position myself well. I still sprinted third. For tomorrow the first goal is to take the GC home with Alec (Segaert). We won a WorldTour GC with Lennert (Van Eetvelt) at the UAE Tour, and hopefully we can do it with Alec as well. It will be a hard day, so we’ll see what’s possible also for the stage win. Now we need to recover well ahead of tomorrow”, the Belgian champion said after the finish.
