ProTeam Milan Menten second in opening stage Tour of Istanbul

The first hilly stage in Turkey started and finished in Çatalca. The Lotto Dstny Team came to the start with a strong mix of pro and development riders, with sprinter Milan Menten. Emilien Jeannière (TotalEnergies) sprinted to the win, with Menten coming in second place.

Sports Director Kurt Van de Wouwer: “It was very warm here today, above 30 degrees. The first stage was 160km with 2500 altitude meters. There was an early breakaway of 6 riders, which we controlled together with TotalEnergies. On 30km to go, we made an echelon making a group of 28 riders in the front, with 6 riders of us. This group also went to the finish, in a corner Milan (Menten) lost some spots and in the sprint he’s almost back on the wheel. The second spot is a good result, a little bit unfortunate after the teamwork that it wasn’t the victory. But we will try again tomorrow, with another possibility on a sprint.”
