Ladies Lotto Ladies kick off their season with ambition: Setmana Ciclista Volta Femenina de la Comunitat Valenciana as the first test
After a sunny training camp in Spain, the Lotto Ladies are ready to pin on their race numbers for the first time this season. With a solid preparation and strong team spirit, Grace Verbeke is looking forward to the season opener: “The first race of the season is always exciting because you’re eager to see where everyone stands. Many riders had a strong season last year and followed it up with a good winter. That’s why we head to Spain with ambition. We love to animate the race and will definitely try to make an impact.”
With the departure of team leader Thalita de Jong and several other experienced riders, the team dynamics have shifted, giving riders the opportunity to further develop themselves. “Our young riders learned a lot from the more experienced ones last year. Now, they can apply that knowledge as we support them. Many see that extra year of learning as motivation to aim for their own results,” says Verbeke.
For Audrey De Keersmaeker (25), this season brings more freedom to explore her strengths: “Last year, we had one clear team leader, but this season, we have multiple key riders. That gives us the flexibility to try different strategies. I think in the tougher races, more eyes will be on me. Personally, it will be interesting to see where I stand. In Valencia, I want to test how long I can keep up with the big names.”
A few new faces are also bringing fresh energy to the team. Verbeke is excited to see how the newcomers perform: “Lucy Bénézet Minns, a talented youngster moving up from the juniors, is now stepping into the elite ranks. She has great potential to make an impact. Romina Hinojosa is more of a climber, and the Volta Valenciana course should suit her well.”
