ProTeam Strong team performance at Figueira Champions Classic as Widar finishes fourth
From the start in Figueira da Foz, the race was characterised by a demanding parcours and a high tempo in the peloton. The undulating terrain and repeated climbs on the finishing circuit created a selective and tactical contest.
The team adopted an attentive and proactive approach, remaining present and responding to key developments throughout the race. As the breakaway formed and the race situation evolved, our riders maintained strong positioning to ensure readiness for the decisive phase, with Cedric Beullens animating the breakaway of the day, which effectively put the team in a comfortable position to control the race.
Entering the final 20 kilometers, the intensity increased significantly when a group of six riders managed to escape. Among them was our own Jarno Widar. On the final ascents, Widar showed both composure and strength, battling with Martí for the third place. In a fast and hard-fought finish, he crossed the line in fourth position, narrowly missing out on a podium position.
Reflecting on his first race of the season, Widar expressed satisfaction with his performance, praised the strong work and commitment of his teammates throughout the day: “With Cedric (Beullens) in the breakaway today, we were immediately safe. On the long climb I unfortunately was too far to make the move but luckily Liam (Slock), Luca (Van Boven) and Matys (Grisel) came at the perfect time and they worked extremely hard to get back. On the final climb, Cedric (Beullens) again did a massive job!”
“I knew that the final climb would be decisive. I was only missing a bit of punch, but now I only know better how to train for my upcoming goals. I am really happy with today’s result and the work done by the team”, Widar says positive and motivated.
