Development Matys Grisel powers to victory at Tour des 100 Communes
From the start of the race, the team approached the Tour des 100 Communes with a clear objective: ride for Matys Grisel. With a structured plan and strong teamwork, the riders took control of the race, particularly on the local laps where the pace intensified and the peloton began to split.
The strategy was to make the race as selective as possible and create the ideal scenario for Grisel in the finale. The riders committed fully to the plan, keeping the race under control while putting pressure on the field.
Grisel delivered when it mattered most, finishing off the team’s work with a powerful ride to the line and taking his first victory in some time. “I am so happy with this win. Everything just went perfect. My legs were feeling really strong and the team worked so hard today. We committed fully to the plan and the team gave me a lot of confidence. It’s my first win after quite some time so this feels really nice. I’d really like to thank the team for this one, it wouldn’t have been possible without them”, Grisel says.
Sports Director Zico Waeytens praised the riders for the way they executed the strategy throughout the race. “We had a clear plan today with Matys as leader. We were convinced that he could go for the win and we gave him a lot of confidence. From the first local laps we tried to break open the race and make it as tough as possible, and the team did this perfectly. After that we just kept control and the final also went exactly as planned. As sports director, I couldn’t be more proud of the guys. They executed the whole plan perfectly.”
The victory also marked a special milestone for Waeytens, as it came in his first race in the role. “As this was my first race, I have to admit that it gave me a lot of goosebumps. It feels really special to take home a win in your first race.”
