Development Young riders from the Wanty Gobert Cycling Academy receive Orbea bike through Lotto-Intermarché

Nine young riders from the Wanty Gobert Cycling Academy had the opportunity last week to receive an Orbea bike at the Lotto-Intermarché Service Course. The bikes are provided as part of the collaboration between Wallonie-Bruxelles Cycling, the Ministry of Sports of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Wanty-Gobert Academy and the Lotto-Intermarché pyramid.

The development of young riders is one of the key pillars on which Lotto-Intermarché strongly focuses. Thanks to the collaboration with the Van Moer Logistics Cycling Team on the Flemish side and the Wanty-Gobert Cycling Academy on the Walloon side, our team continues to pay close attention to youth cycling categories throughout Belgium.

This collaboration aims to serve as a stepping stone towards the professional peloton for young talents, resulting in several initiatives. Not only can the most talented riders of the Wanty-Gobert Academy — in collaboration with Team Wallonie and Wallonie-Bruxelles Cycling — benefit from the expertise of the professional structure, but some of them also took part in a training camp in Albir, Spain, in January, and more recently in a training camp in the Flemish Ardennes. Earlier this month, nine riders also received an Orbea bike identical to those used by the professional riders.

The young talents received their bikes at the Lotto-Intermarché Service Course in Temse, in the presence of CEO Jean-François Bourlart, sports manager Kurt Van de Wouwer and Academy director Frédéric Amorison. The bikes will be at their disposal throughout the entire season, allowing them to benefit from top-level equipment to continue their development.

Jean-François Bourlart: “This intensive collaboration with young riders and their clubs offers real opportunities for young talents. The Academy ensures that they are supported in the best possible way, at their own pace and within their stable environment. The direct connection with our Lotto-Groupe Wanty Development Team as well as with the professional team enables us to identify tomorrow’s cycling talents at a very early stage and to guide them as effectively as possible in their progression.”

Over the past five years, thanks to this type of collaboration, more than 25 promising young riders from Intermarché-Wanty and Lotto Cycling Team have joined today’s professional peloton.
