Sterre Vervloet becomes provincial champion of Antwerp

Sterre Vervloet has become the provincial champion of Antwerp. "We had a race within a race for that title, which made it quite exciting."

"In the final lap, three women broke away," says Sterre Vervloet. "But they were three foreign riders, so we didn't have to worry about them in terms of the title. Unfortunately, they managed to stay just ahead of the peloton." This meant that the sprint behind them would decide the provincial title, which was contested this afternoon in Mol. "I ended up sprinting to 12th place, but I was the first rider from Antwerp, which secured me the jersey."

"It wasn't an easy race. Personally, I wasn't really focused on the title, but other girls clearly were, as everyone from the province was watching each other and not letting anyone break away. It was really difficult to do anything; I never got the chance to escape. But well, I managed to pull it off, so I'm actually quite satisfied."
