The queen stage of the Tour de Luxembourg has delivered another top-ten finish for Lotto Dstny. Andreas Kron finished 7th and now sits 4th in the general classification.

“A crucial day for the overall standings,” Kron announced this morning before the start. The queen stage of this Skoda Tour de Luxembourg — between Rosport and Diekirch — was the longest, toughest, and the one with the most elevation gain of the entire week, with 3,800 meters over 201 kilometers. “It was a really tough stage,” said Andreas Kron afterwards. “We were pushing really hard in the peloton all day, with Groupama-FDJ setting the pace for David Gaudu.”

The stage saw two early escapees, but Mauri Vansevenant broke away in the finale. A counterattack followed from the chasing group, but it was unsuccessful. “UAE and Mathieu van der Poel were setting a really hard pace. I ended up in the group that was sprinting for third place and tried to time it right, as I was hoping for a stage win, but it didn’t happen. Besides, I didn’t have the best legs to pull it off. But I’m happy with how we performed as a team today.”

Kron initially finished eighth, but moved up a place to seventh after Davide Formolo was disqualified post-stage. He now sits fourth in the GC. “I hope I can ride a good time trial tomorrow, and then we’ll see. Sunday’s final stage is another opportunity for us to go for a stage win and finish with a strong result in the standings.”
