Development Aldo Taillieu wins prologue at Tour du Rwanda

Lotto Cycling Team kicked off the Tour du Rwanda in the best possible way: Aldo Taillieu (19) powered to victory in the prologue. Milan Menten completed the podium, finishing in third place.
Race 23 February 2025

The prologue, held between Kigali BK Arena and Kigali Amahoro Stadium, was a short but intense opener. The 3.4 km time trial required an explosive effort from start to finish— something Taillieu clearly had in his legs. He convincingly rode to the victory and took the first leader's jersey. “You can’t pace a 3.4 km race, so it’s all-out from the start. It’s great to begin my season this way. I dedicate this win to my late friend and former teammate Miel Dekien,” Taillieu said afterward.

Sport director Kurt Van de Wouwer had high praise for the performance of his young rider: “Aldo Taillieu is just a first-year U23 rider, so it’s an impressive achievement to take the win in his first race.”

With this victory, Taillieu gives Lotto a flying start in Rwanda. Tomorrow, the peloton will race from Rukomo to Kayonza, a hilly stage where there might also be an opportunity for the sprinters.
