Development Milan Menten sprints to fourth place in the second stage of Tour du Rwanda

In the second stage of the Tour du Rwanda, a hilly route from Rukoma to Karonza, Milan Menten sprinted to fourth place, moving up to second in the general classification.
Race 24 February 2025

After the prologue, the first stage of the Tour du Rwanda featured rolling terrain that, despite the uphill finish, appeared to favor the sprinters. A four-rider breakaway formed early in the race, but Mauro Cuylits (19) and Kamiel Eeman (19) did an excellent job keeping the leaders in check.

The final climb wasn’t steep enough to cause significant gaps, so the stage concluded in a mass sprint. "The last four kilometers were slightly uphill. We took the lead to control the race. I was in Aldo Taillieu's wheel, but I was surprised by how fast the others came from behind. I got close, but couldn't quite bridge the gap to the top three," said Menten.

With his fourth-place finish, Milan Menten strengthens his position in the general classification. He’s now in second place, just nine thousandths of a second behind the leader.
