Development Jarno Widar wins the Flèche Ardennaise
“The team worked for me all day, and they did an excellent job. I’m happy I could finish it off for them,” said a satisfied Jarno after the finish.
Midway through the race, a heavy storm broke out, with torrential rain and even thunderstorms. The organization decided to temporarily neutralize the race. After the restart, the race was back on, and with 12 kilometers to go, Widar launched his decisive attack on the Stockeu. He rode alone at first, but was soon joined by Lorenzo Finn (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe Rookies).
Together, they headed towards the finish line, where Widar eventually crossed solo. “It’s a shame there wasn’t a real sprint. Lorenzo said there was something wrong with his helmet. A two-man sprint would have made it more exciting, but it is what it is.”
According to Widar, the Flèche Ardennaise is “the most beautiful race in Belgium.” The riders faced a brutal course with no fewer than 17 climbs. “It’s a stunning course with a great finale, so I’m really proud to win this race.”
Just two weeks after winning Liège–Bastogne–Liège, he now adds the Flèche Ardennaise to his palmarès, claiming his third victory of the season.
