Development Promising start for our team in openings stage of Ronde de L'Isard
It was promised to be a tough first stage today in Ronde de L'Isard with a total of 150 kilometers. The biggest challenge was the Col des Palomières, a climb of second category, located at only five kilometers away from the finish line. After a strong race, Niels Driesen got to sprint to a third place, also taking the white jersey.
“After multiple attacks, three riders made it up to the front”, explains sports director Dirk Aernouts. “In the final they still had a climb on the menu that was only five kilometers away from the finish line, followed by another five kilometers descent. Niels went into the last corner in first position, but unfortunately got passed by two other riders. Nevertheless, his third-place finish and the white jersey are a great reward for his efforts. Jarno Widar also showed his great form with an eighth place. So in general, we can be very satisfied with the start of this stage race”.
“The whole team managed to control the race today and we never really got into trouble. On the last climb we really put out a strong pace. When we were at the top, only about twenty people were still with us. I tried attacking in the descent but unfortunately did not succeed. In the end I still managed to work towards a third place”, reflected Niels Driesen positively.
With a podium finish, a white jersey, and multiple riders showing their great form, the team has laid a strong foundation for the remainder of the Ronde de L’Isard.
