ProTeam “A race against yourself”: Alec Segaert secures third place in Brasschaat
Over a course of 40 km’s through the streets of Brasschaat, our belgian riders raced against the clock for the tricolore jersey. Alec Segaert claimed a well-deserved third place after a tough ride. “A time trial is actually quite easy. It’s just a race against yourself,” said Segaert after the finish. “Today, two people were better than me”, he laughs.
“I started off quite well and had a good time at the first checkpoint. After that, I consciously held back a bit so I could still do a fast second lap,” he explained. “Florian (Vermeersch) was again very fast. By the end of the first lap, I was already a bit behind him. When starting the second lap, I tried to give as much as I could, but I only seemed to lose more time. I tried to get everything out of it, as I knew that Florian (Vermeersch) is very strong in the final. So today, a third place was the maximum possible.”
Meanwhile, there were also strong showings from our younger talents. Steffen De Schuyteneer finished sixth in Belgium. In Luxembourg, Mathieu Kockelmann took a third place overall in the time trial and won the U23 title. Likewise, our Lotto Lady Lucy Bénézet Minns claimed a fourth place in the women’s elite time trial and secured the U23 championship title.
