Development Victor Van de Putte sprints to first victory in second stage of Tour de Namur
The team approached the second stage with a clear plan: “The first hour was mainly to form a decent breakaway and take control of the race”, sports director Alfdan De Decker explains. “Tars (Poelvoorde) and Leon (Taillieu) did a fantastic job again. After 55 kilometers, the breakaway was formed and Tars (Poelvoorde) and Leon (Taillieu) took control. Later on in the race, Aldo (Taillieu) joined in and closed the gap to the leaders. After the last climb, the peloton got ripped into parts and in the uphill finish Victor (Van de Putte) was clearly the strongest.”
For Victor Van de Putte, this win feels very special. “It feels really special to finally take that win. After two months of gaining experience with the Pro team, I finally got the chance to compete for a win. And it feels fantastic that I succeeded! The team did again an amazing job, so I am also happy that I could reward their hard work with this win.
“As Mauro (Cuylits) finished in second place, we are in a very good position for the GC, which will probably be decided in tomorrow’s stage”, he says commited.
