The race really started to take its shape on the second ascent of the Mur de Huy, when a strong group of 28 riders formed. Our team was well represented, with Duarte Marivoet and Niels Driesen making the move and positioning the team well for the further development of the race. Shortly before heading onto Mur de Huy, Kamiel Eeman was forced to chase back after suffering a mechanical issue. “The timing of the mechanical issue could not have been worse. But nevertheless I kept believing to come back and give it my all”, Eeman says

During the final lap, the winning move by Eike Behrens (Team Lotto Kern-Haus Outlet Montabaur) came early on the final ascent of the Mur de Huy. Niels Driesen responded by lifting the pace, hoping to neutralize Behrens’ attack, but he was simply too strong to catch up with. Niels Driesen still managed to deliver a very strong finish to secure the second place, while Driesen managed to finish right behind him in third position.

Looking back on today’s performance, Kamiel Eeman is overall happy with the outcome: “I still managed to get back to the first group but on the final ascent, the winner already attacked really early. I tried my best to catch Behrens but I came too short. The team did a great job today and we worked really hard to get that second and third place in. I think we can be proud of how we fought and did not give up.”

Sports Director Alfdan De Decker reflects positively on the team’s performance: “The strongest rider clearly won today. But with our second and third place we clearly showed that we are equally strong. It’s not a win of course, but we can be really happy and proud of our performance today.”
