The Hel van het Heuvelland once again proved to be a demanding race. On the 156-kilometre course through the municipality of Voerendaal, riders faced climbs such as the Bergseweg, Fromberg, Koulenberg and Grubbenweg. Vaneeckhoutte immediately felt strong and was part of a strong breakaway in the second half of the race.

“Today was a beautiful but tough day. I felt good from the very beginning and halfway through the race we got away with six riders. I really felt strong.” In the final, Vaneeckhoutte made the difference. “With ten kilometres to go, I launched the decisive attack and rode solo towards the finish.”

This victory carries an extra emotional value for Vaneeckhoutte. “For me, this means a lot after a difficult period following the loss of my best friend Milan Bral. This victory is therefore a tribute to him.”
