ProTeam Milan Menten sprints to strong third place on home soil
The 176.8 km course through the scenic blossom region between Hasselt and Tongeren was a race that ranked high on the list for local rider Milan Menten. Rain in the hours leading up to the start, made sure that it became a hard day in the saddle. After a hard-fought battle on home roads, Milan capped it off with a well-deserved third place. To finish it off, he even got to share the podium with his training partner Milan Fretin of Cofidis. “Originally, I was on Moschetti’s wheel. But when I saw Milan (Fretin) as I kicked off my sprint, I switched to his wheel instead. He's been in great shape lately, and it turned out to be the right wheel to follow,” he says.
“I’ve already finished in fourth and sixth position in this race, so I’m really pleased to finally take a podium close to home,” he explains. Securing a top-three finish on familiar ground gives Milan a big confidence boost heading into the upcoming races on his calendar. “Races like this one, with a similar type of finish, really suit me. So I’m hoping to be back on the podium again soon.”
