Development Tars Poelvoorde honors Bjorg Lambrecht with an impressive victory in the Memorial

Tars Poelvoorde won the sixth edition of the Memorial Bjorg Lambrecht after an impressive solo breakaway. “I’m especially happy that I can honor Bjorg in this way,” he said.
Race 24 August 2025

“I was in the lead already in the first lap,” says Tars Poelvoorde. “Then, in the second lap, we managed to break away with five riders. Midway through the race, only Born de Dobbelaere and I were left at the front. While we were giving it our all, every chase attempt behind us was shut down by our teammates. That way, our lead grew to almost three minutes. In the final, that gap dropped to one minute and 20 seconds, but the peloton never got closer. I managed to launch a late attack because I didn’t want to risk losing in a sprint. It turned out to be the right move, as I crossed the finish line alone.”

Poelvoorde is particularly satisfied with the victory after a few tough weeks following a crash at the Belgian Championships. “I was very motivated to start. Last Wednesday, I regained some confidence at the Grote Prijs Stad Torhout, where I was also in the attack but faded in the finale. Today, I immediately felt good. I’m very happy to close a difficult period for myself, but above all, to honor Bjorg in this way.”
