ProTeam Jenno Berckmoes finishes third in Muur Classic

Jenno Berckmoes finished third in the Muur Classic. Berckmoes won the race last year: “I had already spent a big bullet on the first climb over the Muur, and I paid for it in the finale,” he says.
Race 27 August 2025

Before the race, there was some joking on the Lotto Cycling Team bus: who would take the KOM (King of the Mountain, ed.) from Arnaud De Lie today? De Lie had claimed that Strava segment during the Renewi Tour, but with another race over the Muur this afternoon, that fame could be short-lived. “We still need to check,” laughs Jenno Berckmoes afterward. “With 90 kilometers to go, Jonas Abrahamsen made the first big move. I knew he’d be the man to beat and that he also wanted that KOM (laughs). We went full gas, but I burned a bullet right there. And I know: Jonas never slows down.”

Berckmoes ended up in a chasing group. “And on the second climb, I was only in sixth position. A gap opened, and we couldn’t close it. That’s a mistake on my part, but honestly, I don’t think I had the legs to beat Abrahamsen today. The early effort in the race cost me in the finale. I’m a bit disappointed that I couldn’t win again, but there are still plenty of great races coming up. I’m still feeling the effects from the Renewi Tour, but I feel like I’m getting better every day.”
