Algemeen Mathieu Kockelmann wins stage four in Tour de L’Avenir
The peloton in the prestigious Tour de L’Avenir — the Tour de France for U23 riders — was presented with a short stage today. Between Montagnat and Val-Suran, there were about 110 hilly kilometers. With two fifth-place finishes earlier this week, Kockelmann had already shown great form: “We’ve been close every day,” he said. “We have a really close-knit team here, and we truly believe in ourselves (in the Tour de L’Avenir, riders compete in national teams, ed.). Yesterday, I lost a few positions in the last corner due to another rider’s maneuver, but today everything went right.”
“Along the way, we faced a few climbs; it was just a matter of getting over them well. The pace wasn’t extremely high. On the last climb, I went all out, and my sprint went almost perfectly today. I’m really happy with this victory. It was also my last chance because now we’re heading into the mountains.”
