Development Two out of two for Tars Poelvoorde with another win in the Memorial Danny Jonkheere
“I was eager again,” says Tars Poelvoorde. An understatement, as it turns out, because with two wins in three days, Poelvoorde once again showed his great form today in Oudenburg. “I assumed today would end in a mass sprint. Four laps from the finish, we caught the early breakaway, but on a section with crosswinds, two riders from Dovy Keukens-FCC launched a team attack and got away with two riders from VDM-Trawobo. I was the only one able to join them.”
Initially, Poelvoorde thought he had made the wrong move, but the group of five built up a solid lead. “I thought I was trapped, stuck between the two pairs. But looking back, it actually worked to my advantage. I could hide behind the fact that our sprinter was still in the peloton. With three kilometers to go, I went all in with a late attack. I had nothing to lose. I immediately created a nice gap and managed to hold it to the line. I absolutely didn’t expect to win today, but I’m incredibly happy.”
